Welcome to Meeting No. 106 of the Rotary Club of Latitude 38
Travis Bell has a unique life-engagement message really wakes people up, stops ground hog days and helps people live their life on purpose. He says “A Bucket List is a tangible Life Plan…where our Business Plan or Career Plan should fit into our Life Plan and not be the other way around.” SEE TEDX TALK BELOW.
August is Membership and New Club Development Month
President's Message
Last week the Board met and decided to support RYLA in District 9820 by sponsoring a participant, preferably from the Latrobe Valley. Also, the Board agreed to pursue Cambodia Schoolies 2018 with Kurnai College. Both great ventures and we will see where they take us. I had the opportunity to catch up with Amy at Inverloch on Wednesday for a quick cuppa on a very rainy day. I was only able to be there for 30 minutes but the fellowship was lovely. In our club it is difficult to always achieve the fellowship of Rotary. Can I encourage you all to make contact with another member that you may not have spoken to over the next month? A phone call or visit would be brilliant, but even email is okay too.
And on a personal note, yesterday I attended the Victorian Irish Dancing State Championships with my eldest daughter Brydie who placed 12th in the state. This is the first time she has achieved a placing and she was the dancer on stage in tears, not to mention her mum in the theatre watching. Brydie is not a natural at irish dancing but trains so diligently and sets her goals. Whilst I really don’t like the pageantry of the event, I appreciate the life skills it teaches her. Yesterday I told her just about everything was fake – the tan, the wig, the makeup, the crystalled dress, the taped on shoes (yes they use electrical tape to streamline their legs – crazy) but Brydie told me very seriously “I know Mum, but the dancing isn’t”. I have attached a photo of Brydie and her diligent teacher and mentor in life lessons, Fiona Holmes. Today I am on home whilst Paul plays ‘dance dad’ for teams day at the State Championships – less fakeness, lots of teamwork, and lots of fun.
Regards,
Deanne S.
