Welcome to Meeting No. 134 of the Rotary eClub of Latitude 38

April is Maternal and Child Health Month

President's Message

The Board met last week and carried on the work of the Club. I am grateful for the board we have and thank them for their work. All members had been invited to join the meeting but no new voices were on line. This was a little disappointing as it is important for a club like ours that we engage with each other from time to time as best we can. Even an apology for inability to attend a meeting would encourage the Board as it seek to give leadership. We are hoping to start up "fellowship" meetings soon where there will be less business and more of the "getting to know you" stuff. We might even have a guest speaker online!

Don't forget that the Avenues of Service and District Assembly is coming up on Sunday 29 April 2018 at Federation Uni Berwick,100 Clyde Road, Berwick commencing at 8.30am. I know it is difficult for some of us to attend but those of us who can I hope you will make the effort. This is a great information and discussion day on matters Rotary. More details are on the District website.

I hope you all have a good week.

Regards,

Deanne S.

President 2017-18

This week's meeting material

Maternal health: Where are we today? Maternal and newborn child health is central to social, human and economic development. Despite significant progress in improving maternal health globally, the current rate of progress is not enough. Far too many women still die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Just how many? Watch the video to find out.

How a team of chefs fed Puerto Rico after Hurricane  Maria - After Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in 2017, chef José Andrés traveled to the devastated island with a simple idea: to feed the hungry. Millions of meals served later, Andrés shares the remarkable story of creating the world's biggest restaurant -- and the awesome power of letting people in need know that somebody cares about them.
